A New Place to Visit in Astoria

There is a new kid in town, Marie Antoinette's Cupcakes in the Banker's Suite!

Check out their websites:
thebankerssuite.com
marieantoinettescupcakes.com

My girlfriend Karen and I stumbled upon  this magical place in Astoria 1215 Duane Street.  It's more than a cupcake shop, there is whimsy at every turn, the care and detail that was taken to restore this wonderful old bank building is truly a work of art, not to mention the best cupcakes in the Northwest!
I had to try the "Marie Antoinette" cupcake of course with a cardamon latte that was laced with fresh orange peel!  I thought I had died and gone to heaven!  And these two angels were coming up with all sorts of treats to serve us!

What is a girl to do? Two words...TAKE OUT!  Even the take out boxes are adorable!  I'll take one of each please!

If you get the chance, ask to see the upstairs, it is truly a "Mackenzie Childs" museum! We spent two hours drooling over the amazing art and furnishings!
Art and More Art! I Love it!
I think one of these little cuties needs to come home with me!

Even the bathrooms were amazing!  I must say I don't think I've ever taken so many pictures in a bathroom before!  These are just a sample!
Did I mention there was ART      EVERYWHERE?

This place is truly worth the drive from Portland, it is a "destination" girlfriend trip...I give it a FIVE star!  Don't miss this gem of an adventure, there is nothing like it in Oregon!  I guarantee you will leave with a happy heart!  Rumor has it that after the last Sunday Market in Astoria in October, they will serve a high tea on Sundays!  I'm counting the days!

Ta Ta and remember girls..."Pinkies Up" and "Eat Cake"!

Spring Break Fun in Astoria

We headed North to Astoria for a day of fun in Astoria this spring break. Breakfast at the "Columbian Cafe" on Marine Drive is a must! This year they will celebrate their 30 year anniversary! Their food is amazing and you can sit right up at the counter if you like and watch the chef do his magic!  It's definitely a destination not to be missed!  Look for the red and white awning.

Our son chose a winner, lox, and caper scamble on lace potatoes!

Can you tell I didn't like mine much?  How does a mushroom, bacon and blue cheese crepe sound?
Every meal come with the most amazing homemade bread with an assortment of spicy jellies made by the chef!  What a treat!

.
We had to walk off our breakfast and discovered a few local characters!
There is fun to be found in Astoria!

If you are looking for decorating ideas check out "Ambiance" at 229 14th Street
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

After all that shopping we found ourselves a little thirsty.
If coffee is your thing, my son thinks the Astoria Coffee House rocks.
If coffee isn't your thing, I found a cute new little tea shop "All the Tea and China"
located on Commercial just past The Liberty Theatre.
I can't wait for our next adventure in Astoria, every time we go we find a new place!

I'm Back!

I'M BACK!
I feel as if my life has been on "freeze frame" the last 4 months, but I'm here to say "I'M BACK"!

One of my baby birds, received a Fullbright Scholarship to study Malaria in Africa for 10 months, completely by herself! Needless to say it was more difficult than I had thought it would be to watch her fly away, but the sleepless nights have gone away and I'm finding joy in my art and friends once again. Feeling so very proud of my incredibly intellegent and brave baby bird.

Sister's Folk Festival

We were invited to go to the "Sister's Folk Festival"with the Inlaws mid September. A well needed break. One look at the view from the cabin we stayed in and all of our stress melted away!

Even Murphy enjoyed the view! There's nothing like mountain air to clear the mind!
I just love the high desert, the air is crisp and dry and every where you turn there is a surprise!
Check out sistersfolkfestival.org for next years venue. The music is fabulous and it's all set in the cute little town of Sisters. A great way to spend a Fall Weekend!
A great place to eat is Bronco Billy's, check out the belts the waitress get to wear! I'm jealous!
What's not to love about the local cowboys? This one had the best handlebar mustache! Tom Selleck would be jealous!
But my favorite cowboy is, the love of my life here serenading me with a little "Home on the Range" Does it get any better than this?

Another Bump in the Road!

While Mom was working hard in PT to regain what she had lost from her stroke, my Dad had to have emergency back surgery! All went well with the surgery, but he was moved into the same nursing home as my Mom with an adjoining room to hers! They were "potty partners" with only a bathroom seperating them! They have not lived together for 4 years since my Mom's first stroke so "love was in the air"! I do believe there is a lot to be said about love healing the body.

There was a "slight" bump in the road since I last posted! In August, my beautiful Mom had another stroke...so much has happened in between, it will take me a little while to come up to speed, so please have patience with me!

My sweet Dad loves her so. They had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary!
